Veterinary Dentistry or Animal Dentistry is an exciting field in veterinary medicine. As a Dog and Horse owner I am very interested in the developments in this field. I started out myself in treating my Dog “Berras”. She broke her canines, probably because of her obsession with chewing very hard objects … One day I discovered that her canines and front teeth were badly chipped. The pulp was already exposed on one of the teeth. I took her to a Vet and he kindly agreed to let me do the Root Canal Treatment. It wasn’t the easiest procedure as I had to get used to 60mm long root canal instruments. Also the ancient X-ray machine at the veterinary surgery here in Cornwall didn’t work properly. However I managed to finish the root canal filling and took an impression with a modified impression tray. After one week I received two shiny stainless steel crowns. I fitted the crowns under a light sedation with oral Valium at home. That was in 2008. Now in 2013 the crowns are still in place and Berras can chew properly.
