Many Adults suffer from various pain symptoms located in the facial/head area. Headache and aches which are located elsewhere are often not associated with Temporo-Mandibular Joint Problems.
What is the Temporomandibular Joint?
If you have answered some of the questions with “YES” you most likely suffer from a TMD = Temporomandibular Disorder.
Often patients will ask their GP to look at these problems and unfortunately often the GP will suspect an “EarProblem” and in some case even send the patient to an ENT Specialist. However these problems are often better addressed when you visit your dentist.
At Atlantic Dental we are examining your bite and jaw joint routinely every time you visit us for your check up. In the symptoms require further investigation we will analyse your bite and jaw joint thoroughly.
After a computer supported analysis the results will be sent to a laboratory which will produce a “bite splint”. The bite splint should be worn by the patient BEFORE and new fillings, crowns or expensive implant restorations are being fitted. After the bite is corrected and the patient is not in pain any more the second stage of the treatment can be approached: Crowns/Bridges/Fillings will be provided to fit exactly in the new jaw position in order to secure the result of the therapy.
