This Treatment was performed as an emergency procedure. Any delay would have lead to an infection and subsequently to an abscess. The Dog Handler (Mick Ware, Police Dog Section Wiltshire) phoned on a Tuesday and we performed the Treatment on a Thursday here in Cornwall (Penmellyn Veterinary Surgery). The crown was manufactured by Dental Crown and Bridge (Redruth) and cemented one week later. The Alternative to the Treatment would have been the extraction of the tooth with all the negative consequences. Fractured teeth in dogs are very common and especially Canines have a large pulp chamber which can lead to exposure of pulp (nerve) even in smaller fractures. Special Root Canal Instruments: As Dog Canines can be up to 55mm (twice the length of human roots) special root canal files are needed. The treatment protocol is similar to human root canal treatment. Technique of the choice was the lateral condensation technique with Sealer (AH plus) and Guttapercha Points. The procedure was carried out under general anaesthesia and local anaesthesia (for pulp removal). The crown
is shorter as the natural canine to avoid stress and possible fractures questions are welcome:
